For organisations

Financial management

Keeping proper financial records and controls, whatever the size of your organisation, and the practical finance services FVA offers.

Good financial management matters as much to a group with a few hundred pounds as to one with a large budget. Being able to show exactly how money came in and went out, with receipts, statements and minuted decisions, protects the people involved as much as the organisation. We are regularly called in where allegations have been made and nobody can prove what happened; full records make those situations short.

The essentials

  • a bank account in the organisation's name, with at least two signatories (see bank accounts)
  • a cash book or simple accounting software, reconciled to the bank statement every month
  • clear rules on who can spend what, recorded in a scheme of delegated authority
  • a budget agreed by the board, and regular reports against it
  • annual accounts in the form your legal structure requires, independently examined where needed

How FVA can help
