Monitoring and evaluation

Showing the difference your organisation makes: setting outcomes, collecting evidence and reporting to funders and the public.

Funders increasingly ask for evidence of outcomes, not just activity: not how many sessions you ran, but what changed for the people who came. Monitoring is the routine collection of that information; evaluation is standing back to judge what it tells you.

  • Set a small number of outcomes when you plan a project, and decide then how you will measure each.
  • Collect evidence as you go: attendance, feedback, case studies, before-and-after measures.
  • Report honestly, including what did not work; funders trust that more than perfection.

FVA has long experience of helping organisations set and measure outcomes and of supporting quality frameworks. We also provide monitoring and evaluation support to organisations funded through the grant programmes we manage.
