For local people

Befriending

Befriending services match people who would like more company with a volunteer who can visit regularly, share an interest, or simply have a chat. Whether you are looking for a befriender or thinking of becoming one, we can help.

Feeling isolated or lonely can affect anyone, at any age.

Befriending puts people in touch with a volunteer who visits regularly - for a cup of tea and a chat, a walk, or help getting out to a local group. It is one of the simplest and most effective things the third sector in Fife does.

Across Fife a number of organisations run befriending services. Some are for particular groups - older people, carers, young people, or people who have recently arrived in Scotland - and some are open to anyone.

  • To find a befriending service, see our list of services;
  • To become a befriender, most services provide full training, expenses and ongoing support;
  • If you run a service and would like it listed, please get in touch.

Contact us at any time if you are not sure where to start - we would rather point you in the right direction than have you give up looking.
