About FVA

Climate change

Fife Partnership has declared a climate emergency. Fife Voluntary Action is committed to tackling climate change and promoting carbon literacy across the third sector in Fife.

Carbon Literacy

FVA has been training our staff in carbon literacy on an ongoing basis with the help of Climate Action Fife's Climate Know How training courses - delivered in partnership with Greener Kirkcaldy. Over 30% of our staff have been trained, with 20% formally accredited in carbon literacy (including our CEO and some Trustees) by the Carbon Literacy Project.

The Carbon Literacy Project's mission is to raise awareness of the long-term effects of energy sources based on carbon use (fossil fuels) and the consequences for the economy and ecology of our planet as a whole. The Project supports training in carbon literacy among professionals, organisations, communities and individuals.

The Project offers accreditation to organisations who are promoting carbon literacy, at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels of accreditation. FVA is working towards achieving our Silver Carbon Literacy Accreditation. You can find out more about accrediting as an organisation here.

Carbon Footprint

Fife Voluntary Action is changing the way it provides services and information to its partners in light of our training in carbon literacy.

We are working to reduce the carbon footprint of our catering, cleaning, daily working and travel practices. We are actively promoting recycling as well as introducing electric vehicle charging point facilities at our offices in Glenrothes and exploring options for renewable energy sources for heating and lighting our buildings.

Working with Partners

Tackling the climate emergency relies on us all working in partnership.

Fife Voluntary Action are working closely with Climate Action Fife and Greener Kirkcaldy to promote training sessions such as Climate Fresk and Fife Climate KnowHow.

FVA are active members of the strategic Fife Environmental Partnership, which feeds into the Fife Addressing Climate Emergency Board, and the Fife Climate Hub Advisory Group .

Thanks to UK Shared Prosperity Funds from Fife Council, we are also working with third sector employability partners to promote carbon literacy training and green skills as an emerging and growing part of Fife's local economy.

We also share news on sources of funding to help third sector partners to reduce their carbon footprint.
