Boards work best when they have a mix of skills, backgrounds and perspectives, and when new members are recruited openly rather than only through people the existing board already knows.
- Decide what skills and experience the board is missing before you advertise.
- Write a short role description that says what the role involves, how often the board meets and what support new members get.
- Advertise the vacancy through FVA's Get on board service, which promotes trustee and board vacancies to people across Fife who want to use their skills to govern a local organisation.
- Check that candidates are eligible to be charity trustees, and carry out any checks your work requires.
- Give new trustees an induction: the constitution, recent accounts and minutes, and a named person to ask.
We provide training for new and experienced trustees and can help you plan a recruitment round.
