Board Review Tool

Free self-assessment questionnaires that help a board of trustees see how well it is working, what skills it has, and where it could develop.

A board that reviews itself honestly every year or two is a board that improves. The Board Review Tool makes that easy: your organisation's own coordinator sets up a review from a dashboard, invites the trustees by e-mail, and receives a report once enough responses are in.

There are two assessments, and a coordinator can run either or both:

  • Skills and training needs: each trustee rates their own skills against what the board needs and says where they would like to develop. Answers are named, so the board can plan training and recruitment.
  • Board effectiveness and behaviours: how the board works together, from meetings and decisions to challenge and culture. Answers are anonymous, so that people can be candid.

Reports are shared by a link that the coordinator controls. FVA's capacity building team can help you interpret the results and plan what to do next.

Who it is for, and how to start

Any charity, community group, social enterprise or credit union in Fife can use it, free of charge. To get started, register as your organisation's coordinator; the capacity building team approves access, usually within a working day or two. Questions to [email protected].
