Illness, a flood, a cyber attack, the loss of a key funder or the sudden departure of the one person who knows the passwords: every organisation faces events that could stop it operating. A business continuity plan is a short, practical document that says what matters most, what could interrupt it, and what you would do.
What a plan should cover
- the services and activities that must continue, and how long each could pause
- where the important records, keys, passwords and contacts are kept, and who else can reach them
- who takes charge if the chair, chief officer or treasurer is unavailable
- how you would contact staff, volunteers, service users and funders
- backups of your data, and how you would work without your building or your IT
- the insurance you hold and how to claim on it
We can help you write a plan proportionate to your size. A one-page plan that is kept up to date is worth more than a long one nobody has read.
