Social media is the cheapest way for a community organisation to be seen, but it works best with a plan: who you want to reach, which platform they use, who posts, and what you will and will not say. One well-kept account beats four neglected ones.
- Agree a simple social media policy covering who has the passwords, what is appropriate, and how to handle criticism.
- Get consent before you post photographs of service users, particularly children.
- Keep the account's login details and two-factor authentication with the organisation, not one person.
- Post regularly about what you do and thank the people who help; it is the content people share.
FVA's communications team runs occasional sessions on communications and social media, and we share partners' news through our own channels and bulletins.
