This one-hour interactive session will be delivered by the Scottish Gambling Education Hub, a Fast Forward programme funded by the Scottish Government.

Gambling harm is not always immediately visible. For people accessing money advice services, gambling may be contributing to debt, financial insecurity or difficulties meeting essential costs without being identified or disclosed as part of the presenting issue.

This session will explore gambling through a public health and harm reduction lens. We will consider how gambling harm can affect individuals, children, young people and families.

Participants will also consider how to sensitively introduce gambling into conversations about money and finances, alongside practical approaches to harm reduction and appropriate signposting to specialist support.

Participants will:

  • Increase awareness and understanding of gambling and gambling-related harm.
  • Develop an understanding of the links between gaming and gambling and how gambling-like features within games may contribute to harm.
  • Feel more prepared to ask about and discuss gambling when supporting someone experiencing financial difficulties.
  • Understand practical harm reduction approaches and know how and where to signpost individuals and families for additional support.
