Your Driving Can Literally Change Lives

Volunteering
David RVS Driver

When David retired, he found himself with something he hadn't had for many years - time.

Like many new retirees, he was adjusting to a very different pace of life. It was his wife who spotted an article in the local newspaper looking for volunteer drivers with Royal Voluntary Service – “That would be perfect for you," she told him.

15 years later, David is still volunteering as one of Royal Voluntary Service's Community Transport drivers, helping people across East Fife and continuing to demonstrate the compassion, commitment and generosity that lie at the heart of Royal Voluntary Service.

His dedication helps ensure that older people across East Fife can remain connected to the healthcare they need and the community around them.

While clients benefit enormously from the service, David says volunteering has changed his life too, "It gives you something to get up for. You feel you're still contributing to society instead of just sitting in the house watching the television."

The friendships, conversations and sense of purpose have kept him volunteering for more than 15 years, "I enjoy meeting people and feeling that you're contributing something to their wellbeing."
