Learner outcomes

By the end of this course participants will:

  • Understand the concept of income maximisation and its role in reducing financial hardship and inequality
  • Recognise opportunities to support individuals in accessing their full entitlement to benefits and grants
  • Use approved tools such as the Fife Benefit Checker and Get Help Fife Toolkit to carry out a basic benefit check
  • Provide accurate information (not advice) and act as a scribe to support completion of simple applications
  • Identify when a person requires additional or specialist support and refer appropriately within the Fife Advice Framework levels
  • Demonstrate understanding of Level 1 boundaries, including when to escalate to Level 2 or 3 services
  • Promote early intervention by offering benefit checks routinely and responding to changes in circumstances
  • Recognise links between income, health, and wider wellbeing, and respond holistically using the toolkit (e.g. fuel, food, employability support)
  • Support access to discretionary grants and additional funding using tools such as Lightning Reach

Who should attend?

The training is aimed at a wide range of frontline and community-based staff who are well placed to identify financial need early and support individuals to maximise their income through appropriate tools and referral pathways.
