Gain the skills and confidence to recognise and respond to someone at risk of suicide by attending this accredited two-day Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) course, delivered by Substances Support Scotland on behalf of NHS Fife.

Accredited by Public Health Scotland, ASIST equips participants with practical, evidence-based suicide intervention skills that can be used in both personal and professional settings.

Through interactive discussions, real-life scenarios and structured simulations, you'll learn how to provide immediate support with confidence, compassion and respect.

By attending, you'll:

  • Recognise when someone may be thinking about suicide.
  • Develop the confidence to ask directly about suicide and respond safely.
  • Learn practical suicide first aid skills.
  • Create collaborative safety plans and connect people with appropriate support.
  • Understand how stigma, attitudes and communication affect help-seeking and intervention.

Who should attend?

The course is suitable for frontline staff, managers, volunteers, community groups and anyone who wants to develop life-saving intervention skills.

Please note that attendance on both days is required to receive a Public Health Scotland certificate.

Session information

Lunch, tea, coffee, biscuits and refreshments will be provided throughout the training.

Substances Support Scotland is committed to providing inclusive and accessible learning. The training takes place on the ground floor, and reasonable adjustments can be made where possible. Please discuss any access, learning or dietary requirements when booking by contacting the organiser.
