Monitoring and evaluation of involvement

Measuring whether engagement and involvement work has made a difference, and reporting it honestly.

Engagement is easy to count and hard to evaluate: numbers of events and participants say nothing about whether the right people were involved or whether anything changed. Evaluating involvement means asking who took part and who did not, what influence they had, what decisions changed as a result, and what participants themselves thought of the process.

FVA has evaluated its own engagement projects, such as the No One Left Behind conversations and Together for Change, and can help partners build evaluation into engagement work from the start, using the National Standards for Community Engagement as the framework.
