Honour-based abuse is a form of control or punishment used to protect or defend perceived cultural/religious beliefs and honour. Women and girls of all ages are predominantly the victims of honour-based abuse.

Fife Violence Against Women Partnership (FVAWP) invite you to join them for an information session that's free and open to everyone - staff, volunteers, and members of the public.

This session will raise awareness and understanding of honour-based abuse, including domestic abuse, forced marriage, and female genital mutilation, and they'll emphasise the local support available in Fife.

    Presentations will include:

    • Parna Patel - a founding member of Project Resist, an independent strategic advocacy and policy organisation focusing on the needs of black and minority women. The presentation will explore community and state responses to honour-based abuse over the last 40 years.
    • Dr Elaine McLaughlin - Operations Manager at Hemat Gryffe Women's Aid will present findings of her research on honour-based abuse in Scotland
    • Sarah Jack - Partner at Drummond Miller LLP will give a legal perspective on No recourse to Public Funds and Access to the Migrant Victims of Domestic Abuse Concession (MCDAC)
    • Sweety Sharma - Outreach Team Leader at Shakti Women's Aid will give a local perspective on the impact of honour-based abuse, including a victim's lived experience and outlining local support available
