Kingdom Companions

  • Kingdom Companions is a short-term, goal specific befriending service which runs for a maximum of 4-6 months. The service aims to support lonely and isolated adults in Fife who would like to re-engage in their local community with the gentle support and encouragement of a befriender volunteer.

Through regular companionship and support our volunteers work alongside clients to achieve a personal goal. Personal goals are just that- personal- and will be unique to each individual. Some examples of previous goals have included attending a local social group, re-visiting an old hobby, or getting support with independent travel.

If you would like a Volunteer Befriender to help you to achieve a goal then you can refer yourself by contacting us or by completing the referral form. You can complete the form on your computer or you can print it, complete it in pen and then hand it in to one of our offices or post it to us. If you need help to complete the form you can call us on freephone 0800 389 6046.

If you'd like to refer somebody you know - a relative, friend or a client if you work in health and social care - simply complete our referral form. See our Frequently Asked Questions leaflet if you'd like more information.

If you'd like to become a Volunteer Befriender then please get in touch with us. Volunteering with us will be very rewarding and we provide full training, support and expenses. Call us on 0800 389 6046 or e-mail us to express an interest.

Eligibility Criteria

Please take the time to read this and ensure eligibility before completing the referral form:
• The befriending service is available to adults aged 18+, who are socially isolated and lonely
• Kingdom Companions befriending service covers all of Fife, however we are dependent on volunteer availability throughout Fife
• Prior to the commencement of befriending, a tangible goal will be agreed upon which the befriendee and volunteer befriender will work towards together during the sessions together. Befriendees are required to be physically and mentally able to leave their home to participate in this befriending programme
• Volunteer befrienders are not permitted to carry out tasks such as moving or manual handling. This includes the use of equipment such as wheelchairs
• Volunteer befrienders are not permitted to carry out any tasks that would normally be the remit of specialist services provided by trained staff who are experienced in handling difficult issues, together with a higher risk assessment, clinical support and supervision.

Limitations of service

Unfortunately, Kingdom Companions is unable to support complex, physical or mental health conditions as volunteers do not have the required level of training, insurance, supervision, or aftercare resources.

Signposting

If we are unable to accept a referral, we will attempt to signpost to an alternative service. However, this is not always possible.
