  • Substances Support Scotland: Scottish Mental Health First Aid (2 day course)

    Created: 6/8/2026

Mental health affects us all, and having the confidence to support colleagues, clients and people around us is increasingly important in both our personal and professional lives. Attendance on both days is required to gain an official Public Health Scotland certificate.

    Participants will:

    • Develop a clearer understanding of mental health and common mental health problems
    • Learn how to approach and support someone who may be struggling
    • Build confidence to have supportive conversations and offer initial help
    • Understand boundaries, self‑care, and when and how to signpost to further support

The course is interactive and reflective, with a mix of facilitated discussion, scenarios, and group activities to support practical learning. Emphasis is placed on compassion, reducing stigma, and supporting people with dignity and respect.

    Accreditation & certification

This course is accredited by Public Health Scotland and delivered on behalf of NHS Fife. Participants receive a Public Health Scotland certificate on successful completion.
