The Wave Project is a surf therapy charity that offers a mental health intervention for young people that are at risk of isolation. We work with young people for a wide variety of reasons, examples include autism, ADHD, physical disabilities, domestic abuse at home, mental health problems.
The young people come down to the beach once a week for 6 weeks, learn to surf in safe and accepting space where they work one to one with a mentor.
As a volunteer, you act as a surf mentor for young people. You become a positive role model in their lives. Being a volunteer is hands-on and fun! You get into the water with the young people and help them learn to surf, play games on the beach, and have time to chat. It is also a great way to gain experience and make friends! You don't need to be able to surf yourself.
