Collydean Community Centre are starting a homework club/family learning class for young people and their families to come to one evening a week. Young people will be provided with a hot snack before being encouraged to work with their parents/caregivers on their homework. The Centre is looking for tutors, university/college students, teachers (including trainees), college tutors and other qualified people to aid these families while they learn. Homework can be tricky for children to complete at home, and sometimes the young person's family is unable to help them, so by working together homework will be completed on time and to a higher standard.
The Centre provides a full induction to all new volunteers, along with regular formal review meetings and informal catch-ups. Volunteers will be offered the chance to train to receive relevant qualifications, such as a first aid certificate, along with ongoing on-the-role training, given by experienced staff and volunteers.
Out of pocket expenses paid?
Yes - The Centre can pay travel expenses at 45p/mile, or the cost of a bus ticket, along with pre-agreed out-of-pocket expenses.
The Centre is looking for someone who is educated to a high level, with the insight and patience to teach others basic skills such as numeracy and literacy, up to higher level maths and English. The right person will be patient, able to think on their feet, and able to explain how to do something in a number of different ways.
