The Area Organiser role is to receive a client's request for their pet, either directly or via a social work team and arrange pet fostering in a specifies geographical area. Volunteers are required to both: have an understanding of pet care and have empathy with distressed pets; and the ability to cope with clients' phone calls, where the caller is sometimes in a stressful situation.
This role also includes: ? Arranging pet foster care after a client's request, completing the paperwork and allocating the pet to a volunteer. ? Coordinating collection and transport of the pet (the transportation should be carried out be the owner, social worker or a registered pet service) ? Monitoring the financing of the pet's food and vet care costs ? Providing support and introducing new fosterers to the process, keeping in contact with the group of pet fosterers in your area ? Notifying the team of any alterations to your existing list of foster carers in order to maintain the database
You will be helping pets and owners in an emergency situation, reducing stress and anxiety for both during a difficult time. Be a part of a team of Area Organisers helping pets and owners across Scotland - there will be the opportunity to meet annually at the AGM.
Training includes: information guide detailing PFSS policies and procedures; informal training and induction meeting; an experienced Area Organiser buddy to help you settle into your new role; ongoing support from National Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator.
You will be supplied with a monitored personal silent alarm for use when visiting clients or fosterers on behalf of PFSS, as part of the lone-worker safeguarding. You will also be given access to the PFSS on-line Data Management System which provides a list of all registered and approved fosterers.
Out of pocket expenses paid?
Yes - A float is made available to each Area Organiser to over minor expenses and to advance money to foster carers for pet food, if necessary. The Area Organiser must ensure receipts are kept. Any agreed out-of-pocket expenses which are incurred when carrying
A passion for improving outcomes for pets and owners in emergency situations; excellent telephone skills; experience such as medical receptionist, NHS staff, vet staff, social work experience, kennel receptionist, etc; problem solving and carrying out the role without direct supervision, resolving minor issues in line with PFSS policies; ability to recognise limits of the role and to seek support as required; commitment to confidentiality; strong organisation skills; basic IT skills.
