As a Home-Start Volunteer you will deliver a unique service to help families with young children in their own homes. You will help families who are experiencing difficulties to prevent further crisis and family breakdown. Home-Start Dunfermline is a voluntary organisation providing support, friendship and practical help through 1:1 volunteer home visiting. We work with families who have at least 1 child under the age of 5 in the Dunfermline and South West Fife. Families receive help from Home-Start for many other reasons including disability, illness, multiple births, family breakdown, relationship difficulties, isolation, substance misuse, lone parenting, domestic abuse, kinship care arrangements and child protection. The support offered is tailored to meet the needs of the family e.g. offering a listening ear and helping the family access community resources. The next volunteer preparation course starts on Wednesday 29 August (one day per week) and runs for six consecutive weeks. If you can't make this date, don't worry, there will be another course along soon! Get in touch to register your interest.
6 week Volunteer Preparation Course (1 day per week) before starting to support a family and ongoing support through Home-Start Coordinator. Regular training and support events throughout the year.
Out of pocket expenses paid?
Yes - Volunteers are asked to submit expense sheets each month for public transport, mileage (45p per mile), parking or other expenses incurred relating to their volunteering role.
Experience of being a parent is helpful but not essential, as long as you have some experience of looking after children. Listening skills and a non-judgemental, positive attitude as well as patience, commitment and reliability are essential.
