St Andrews Botanic Garden - Urban Community Farm Horticulturist
Post: Urban Community Farm Horticulturist
Hours: 15 per week
Salary: £18,031 pro rata
St Andrews Botanic Garden wishes to appoint a part-time member of the St Andrews Botanic Garden Horticulture Team as a food grower. This role will assist in a unique opportunity to create and develop an exceptional small-scale urban farm and community food garden in an influential University and Botanic Garden context. A total 1200m2 is prepared and available for immediate development for productive food growing to a commercial standard. Established volunteer groups are in place and formal ties with student groups established through previous years of this project. This role is to support the Lead Horticulturist and Educator in the practical delivery of this urban growing project. As directed, you will work on an intensive productive food garden undertaking soil preparation, cultivation, sowing, planting, weeding, harvesting and bed preparation. The post holder must demonstrate a good work ethic in what is a physically demanding role undertaken outside in all weathers, at certain times of the year alone for long periods. In addition, the post holder will lead scheduled and unscheduled work parties with volunteers several times each week, particularly during University term-time.
