  • 65 working days to go: Every third sector organisation impacted by new data protection laws

    Created: 22/02/2018
    News/Events Category: General News

There's just over 60 working days to understand how the new data protection legislation (the General Data Protection Regulations, or GDPR) will impact on your organisation.  By that same deadline you also need to be fully compliant - there will be no grace period!

The legislation and requirements have changed a lot from the old Data Protection Act, impacting on employee records, volunteer records, IT security, paper files, health and conviction information and much, much more.  Information you store and process on any person is covered by the new GDPR.  This legislation will impact every organisation.

For example, if you employ staff and don't take certain steps before 25 May, you will be in breach of the law and could face a hefty fine.  The maximum fines have increased considerably. We're not in the business of scaremongering, but this is important legislation and we want to ensure organisations are compliant.  You may not need to do much, but there are things that you absolutely must do or you will be in breach.

There's a wealth of information available on the Information Commissioner's website: https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/guide-to-the-general-data-protection-regulation-gdpr/

Here, at FVA, we've already hosted a few introductory sessions in partnership with the Information Commissioner's Office.

We're running three more detailed/practically focused training sessions in March, led by an experienced solicitor and our own CEO, it will be more targeted at third sector organisations and afford opportunities to ask questions. Two sessions are fully subscribed already but the session for Thursday 01 March still has a few places leftPlease click here to book your place.

The session is designed for Trustees and/or senior staff.
