We're delighted to announce a series of new training sessions which has been specifically developed for third sector organisations operating in Fife.  We've combined our extensive governance and third sector experience, our reasonable knowledge of employment law, and teamed up with Square Peg HR to access their considerable experience and expertise in HR and employment law to design courses that are designed to improve HR/employment practice in your organisation.

    Who are these sessions for?
It is designed for organisations of all sizes - those about to recruit their first employee, right up to national organisations with senior staff who line manage others and need a refresher.  It will also suit committee members/trustees in organisations that employ staff - good practice starts at the Board level and in increasingly complex situations, Board members often get involved in dealing with difficult situations.

Is it a course or separate sessions?
We've designed the courses to work as a series, so you can attend all 5, but they also stand alone, so you need only attend the session(s) that would benefit you most.

We've not had any employee issues, so we don't need to attend, right?!
Here at FVA we spend a lot of time supporting organisations who get into employment/HR difficulties - many of these issues could have been prevented through greater confidence and improved practice.  The hassle, expense, broken relationships, months of stress could all have been avoided.  We strongly encourage organisations that employ staff to ensure their procedures and practice are robust and that staff and Board members responsible for line managing people have the skills and confidence to do so well.  Attendance at these sessions would go a long way to achieving that.  We can also, between FVA and Square Peg HR, provide additional, customised support to organisations to review policies and procedures.

    Who'll deliver the sessions?
Frances and Carolyn of Square Peg, supported by senior FVA staff, will deliver the sessions.  Between all of them, they bring decades of experience at HR Director/Consultant level and as a specialist employment solicitor, representing employers and employees in disputes.  All the trainers have expertise of directly working for third sector organisations and their Boards.

Where will the sessions be delivered?
They will be split between FVA's Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy training rooms (see below for details).  If you have a team of people who would benefit, we could deliver the sessions at your premises, or deliver a dedicated session for your team at one of FVA's venues in Fife.

Is there a cost to attend?
Yes, we need to charge to cover costs and, to be frank, to encourage attendance.  We've also had feedback in the past that if we don't charge some people assume it won't be very good.  These are excellent training and learning sessions that would normally cost around £100 each.  We're subsidising the sessions and looking to charge the following, per person:

    Session New employer
    (0 staff currently)
    Smaller organisations
    (turnover <£1m)
    Bigger organisations
    (turnover > £1m)
