How Volunteering Made a Difference to Me...
Created: 18/01/2017The staff team at FVA often meet people in the course of their work (and outside of it) who are volunteering or who have volunteered in the past.
We love hearing about this! Often it involves a story about what happened to them during the course of the volunteering, how they felt about themselves and the motivation this gave them to do other things, or make changes they hadn't imagined possible before they volunteered.
Perhaps they had a renewed sense of optimism, their mood, health and fitness improved or they gained the confidence to start another activity. Perhaps they started a new job, made new friends or reconnected with old ones. All sorts of things can happen when we are doing something we enjoy and feel valued for our time and contribution.
Sometimes people make small changes, sometimes big. We know that this is the power of volunteering and we want other people to know too - because we want more people to volunteer!
Will you share your volunteering story with us? Over the course of Volunteers' Week (1-7 June) we will share volunteers' stories with various groups, including the public, to help them see that volunteering isn't just about giving, it's about getting something for yourself too.
If you would like to share your story (once you tell us, it can be made anonymous if you wish) please get in touch by e-mailing [email protected] with the subject 'Volunteering Story'. Or you can call us on 0800 389 6046 or text VOL to 60777 and we will call you back.
