Business at usual at New Volunteer House, Kirkcaldy

This week sees the majority of Third Sector organisations located within New Volunteer House, Kirkcaldy, make the move into their temporary premises next door while major renovations and improvements are undertaken at New Volunteer House.

Fife Voluntary Action have taken particular care to minimise any disruption to the services provided by the occupants of New Volunteer House during this move.

It was only three weeks ago that the temporary accommodation in the old Library premises next door were confirmed and then the clock started running to ensure the building was fit for purpose and comfortable by 7th April. In a remarkably short time new lighting was installed, heating systems commissioned, gas supplies reconnected, security and safety systems installed, new signage fitted and redecoration undertaken where needed. All of this needed to be completed before a convoy of dozens of desks, chairs, filing cabinets and computer systems could be transported across the car park to their new home.

Telephone systems and computer network cabling were being finalised on the morning of the “Big Move” and by Friday 8th April it was “business as usual”.

The renovation at New Volunteer House is being undertaken in two phases and we expect that those organisations who have moved into the former Library HQ premises will move back to their much improved accommodation in around three months time and then we will relocate the remaining organisations across to the temporary building to allow the work to be completed.

Members of the public will continue to access New Volunteer House for meetings, advice and support, including the Job Club and Digital Learning, but CARF and others will use a new entrance door, reception and waiting area. These are clearly signposted on East Fergus Place.

There are 5 meeting rooms available at New Volunteer House during the works, so tenants and other organisations are still able to see clients and hold meetings during the period of works.

The Board of FVA have made a significant investment of staff time and funds to help ensure the long term sustainability and attractiveness of New Volunteer House as a major hub for third sector organisations in Kirkcaldy and the wider Kingdom and are confident in the benefits it will bring to the people and communities of Fife.
