How to Identify and Fix Gaps in Your Volunteer Recruitment Process

Created: 16/10/2026
News/Events Category: Volunteering

Your volunteer database may be growing while weekday shifts remain unfilled, specialised roles stay open, or new registrants never complete their first shift.

For volunteer coordinators, these patterns create a practical challenge: interest in your program is not translating into the participation your team needs. Recruiting more people may help, but it will not resolve barriers that prevent interested volunteers from getting involved.

Before expanding outreach or launching another campaign, examine where your recruitment process falls short. Reviewing registrations alongside completed shifts, volunteer availability, and scheduling needs can help you distinguish an outreach problem from an onboarding delay or a mismatch between volunteer availability and program requirements.

With that understanding, you can focus on improvements where they are needed most - helping interested volunteers move into roles and shifts that support your program.
