Saline & Steelend Environment Group (SSEG) is looking for a Gardening Project Coordinator for their Drying Green project.

The Drying Green community garden is a volunteer-led project and they have exciting plans for the garden, aiming to connect local people of all ages with nature - and one another.

They are looking for an experienced social gardener who will work with SSEG, in partnership with Adelphe Connect, to create a climate ready garden.

They are planning to welcome volunteers from Adelphe Connect - a voluntary organisation that runs community projects to improve the wellbeing of women - to the garden as part of this project.

This position is funded by Fife Communities Climate Action Network.

The role

Main duties will include:

  • Working alone and/or with volunteers to maintain and improve all aspects of the community garden, such as planting, composting, and general upkeep
  • Recruiting, coordinating, and supervising local volunteers for non-specialist construction, planting, and upkeep
  • Act as the main link with the local community, creating publicity materials when necessary
  • Organise community training sessions on sustainable topics like organic growing, permaculture techniques, and climate adaptation methods
  • Oversee the installation of rainwater harvesting, sustainable drainage networks, and rain gardens to prevent flooding
  • Plan for successional and layered planting using native, drought-tolerant, and heat-resistant crops to support local wildlife
  • Integrate willow structures to keep the garden cool during hot weather

The 12-14 hours per week will be structured according to the number and duration of workshops and will require some weekend hours.

About you

They're looking for a passionate, friendly gardener who can enthuse absolute beginners and be a good team player.

You will have working knowledge of horticulture, in particular permaculture, and climate adaptive methods. You will have excellent communication skills and be confident leading small workshops.

How to apply

Please send your CV and covering letter, detailing the experience and skills you can bring to their growing organisation to [email protected]
