Carers Scotland and Carers UK have published their 'Balancing Work and Unpaid Care' report, underlining the importance of supporting carers to remain in and return to work, including through initiatives such as Carer Positive and wider action across government and employers.

Balancing paid work with unpaid care is becoming an increasingly critical challenge for millions of people across the UK.

As our population ages, more people are living with long-term health conditions and disabilities, and the pressures facing our health and social care services continue to grow, increasing numbers of people are providing unpaid care for family members and friends alongside their paid employment.

For many, remaining in work is essential – not only to maintain financial security and protect future pension income, but also to sustain their health, wellbeing, social connections and career aspirations.

Yet, for too many carers, combining paid work and unpaid care is becoming increasingly difficult.
