This session aims to equip frontline staff with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to identify opportunities to maximise income, provide basic support using approved resources, and connect individuals to appropriate advice services in line with Level 1 practice.

Learner outcomes
By the end of this course participants will:
- Understand the concept of income maximisation and its role in reducing financial hardship and inequality
- Recognise opportunities to support individuals in accessing their full entitlement to benefits and grants
- Use approved tools such as the Fife Benefit Checker and Get Help Fife Toolkit to carry out a basic benefit check
- Provide accurate information (not advice) and act as a scribe to support completion of simple applications
- Identify when a person requires additional or specialist support and refer appropriately within the Fife Advice Framework levels
- Demonstrate understanding of Level 1 boundaries, including when to escalate to Level 2 or 3 services
- Promote early intervention by offering benefit checks routinely and responding to changes in circumstances
- Recognise links between income, health, and wider wellbeing, and respond holistically using the toolkit (e.g. fuel, food, employability support)
- Support access to discretionary grants and additional funding using tools such as Lightning Reach
Who should attend?
The training is aimed at a wide range of frontline and community-based staff who are well placed to identify financial need early and support individuals to maximise their income through appropriate tools and referral pathways.
