Social Security Scotland Introduce New Client Text Service
Created: 02/09/2026
Social Security Scotland have introduced a new text messaging service to tell their clients when they can expect to receive a scheduled phone call from to ensure people won’t miss calls.
Shortly before an arranged call, people will receive a text message letting them know that someone from Social Security Scotland will be calling. This should help clients recognise our phone number and encourage them to answer the call. They want to ensure people do not miss important conversations about their application or benefits.
Early feedback shows that the new service is reducing the number of missed calls, allowing them to progress applications.
They continue to urge clients to remain cautious of unexpected calls or messages. Social Security Scotland will never ask people for personal passwords or online banking security details.
Anyone who is unsure about a message or phone call should contact them directly.
They also continue to offer free, confidential assistance to people applying for benefits. More details can be found here: mygov.scot/benefits-support
