The Open University has launched a new toolkit to support parents and carers of neurodivergent children as research reveals families feel overwhelmed and under-resourced.

A new dedicated online hub has been created for parents, carers and anyone working with young children. Explore practical tips from our experts, real stories, and flexible courses designed to help you support children to thrive at home and at school.

Raising neurodivergent children can be wonderful, overwhelming and everything in between. Their experts have created a hands-on guide, filled with practical suggestions and ready-to-try strategies.

It’s a toolkit designed for real life and real families – developed by academics with experience of teaching and raising neurodivergent children.

    • For caregivers: tips to navigate sensory needs, create structure at home and look after yourself amongst it all too.
    • Knowing your rights: simple overviews of your rights as a parent and how to work effectively with schools, health services and local authorities.
    • For educators: tips on creating sensory-friendly spaces, taking learning beyond the classroom and celebrating every pupil.

Remember, it’s not about perfection. It’s about making small, thoughtful changes that make sense for you and your young people.
