    About voting

At Scottish Parliament elections, every voter has two votes: one for their constituency and one for their region.

    With your:

    • constituency vote – you’re choosing an individual candidate to represent you
    • regional vote – you’re choosing a party or independent candidate to represent you

Anyone who lives in Scotland and is registered to vote is eligible, as long as they are 16 or over on the day of the poll and have not been legally excluded from voting (for example, because they are serving a prison sentence of longer than 12 months).

The last date to apply to be registered for this election is Monday 20 April 2026.

We have created a guide to registering and placing votes in this election for you and/or your service users. Click here to read the PDF.
