FVA lunchtime learning sessions are aimed at raising the skills and capacities of local service providers interested in improving or enhancing their provision in Fife.

An unpaid carer is anyone, including children and adults, who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction and cannot cope without their support. The care they give is unpaid.

Many carers don't identify as carers and often extend themselves to caring around the clock without breaks to relieve stress.

A young carer’s experience of looking after others can be even more stressful as their role can impact schoolwork, social activities, and family finances - this is just a small part of the full picture, and it makes seeking work for these young people extra difficult.

At this session, Ross Cafferkey and Nicole Carter from Fife Young Carers will tell us all about:

    • What it’s like to be a young carer in Fife
    • What extra challenges young carers face when seeking work and how to balance employment with their everyday life
    • What we in Fife can do to support young carers generally, and how to help them at the crucial stage of finding their first job
