Big Give created the UK's largest collaborative environmental fundraising campaign called the Green Match Fund. They had a simple yet powerful idea: curate a portfolio of high-impact environmental charities and, for one week around World Earth Day, double public donations through match funding from generous philanthropists and funders.

    Who can apply?

    • UK-registered charity with a Charity Commission, OSCR or NI Charity Commission number, or tax-exempt status.
    • Have an annual income of at least £25,000 (as per last filed accounts with the Charity Commission, OSCR, NI Charity Commission, or Companies House if registered as exempt).
    • Charities may be working in the UK or overseas.
      • Charities working overseas must comply with the relevant regulator’s guidance on protecting charities from harm.
    • Charities that are working on environmental issues as part of their core mission.
      • By “core mission”, we mean that the environment is mentioned in the organisation’s charitable objects. This may include: biodiversity & conservation; climate change; agriculture & food; sustainable communities; energy; transport; trade & finance; consumption & waste; toxics & pollution.
    • Charities seeking to raise:
      • At least £1000 and up to £10,000 in public donations through the 1:1 model (to be doubled by match funds provided by Big Give’s Champion partners).
      • Up to £100,000 in public donations through the pledge model (to be doubled by match funds provided by Big Give’s Champion partners and the charity’s own pledge funders).
      • Charities are limited to apply for Champion funds, which are a maximum of 10% of their annual income.
    • Funds may be applied for in relation to specific projects or core costs.
