Disability Equality Scotland: Accessible Travel Surveys
Created: 21/10/2025Since 2016 Scotland has had an Accessible Travel Framework (ATF). The aim of this is to make Scotland's transport system more accessible for disabled people.
Disability Equality Scotland (DES) have been asked by Transport Scotland to find out about disabled people’s current use of transport. How accessible is it to make a journey on public transport? What has changed over the last nine years for disabled people - both good and bad? Transport Scotland want to use this information to develop a new accessible travel framework.
About the surveys
To help DES work out what is important for a future ATF, they need to learn what is happening right now across the Scottish transport network and how disabled people travel. The ATF also covers how Scotland tackles hate crime and abuse towards disabled people.
As the ATF covers lots of areas, they have tried to break questions down into smaller surveys to make it easier for people to answer the questions.
We have put together three surveys to help find out what is happening in Scotland right now. They've got an online version of the survey - including an easy read version.
Please help them to help disabled people and answer the survey questions if:
You live in Scotland
You are a disabled person
You provide support for a disabled person

Hate Crime Support
Hate crime can be difficult to talk about.
If you feel that you need support regarding hate crime, this can be found here: https://safer.scot/hate-crime/support/#where-to-get-support
Thank you for helping Disability Equality Scotland shape the future of accessible travel in Scotland.
