Proposed Amendments to the Council’s Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils
Created: 23/06/2025All community councils in Fife must operate under the Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils in Fife, (the Scheme). The Scheme sets out how community councils in Fife are formed, the conditions under which they can operate, and the minimum standards to be met for recognition as a community council.
It is considered appropriate at this time to undertake a review of the current Scheme and community council boundary areas before the next round of community council elections, scheduled to take place in 2027.
At a Special Meeting of Fife Council, held on 19 June 2025, the Council agreed to proceed to phase two of the consultation on the revised Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils in Fife. The papers from the Council meeting are available here Fife Council (19th June 2025) | Fife Council.
The process by which the Council will consider whether to make a new scheme, follows Scottish Government guidance, and will be carried out in accordance with the required statutory consultation process.
The consultation is now open and the Council invite suggestions and representations on the draft scheme.
