    News/Events Category: Volunteering
This item will show under the following categories: Health and Social Care

If you’re new to befriending, you might feel nervous before your first conversation with your match. “What if we don’t know what to talk about? What if it’s awkward or we don’t get on?” It’s normal to feel nervous, but don’t worry – your befriending service has matched you for a reason!

To help you feel more confident, Befriending Networks have designed an interactive mini-course to give you some top tips and get your match off to a positive start.

Whether a first conversation with a befriending match is in person or through distance methods such as a telephone call, they want to ensure that befrienders feel confident to engage. This guide is designed to support befrienders and help a befriending match begin with positivity.

    In this course, you’ll learn:

    • Things to consider before you start
    • Common topics to kick off the conversation
    • Top tips for creating a positive befriending match
    • Advice from volunteer coordinators
    • Questions to reflect on after a conversation
