Fife Young Carers Launch Young Carers Futures Projects
Created: 15/05/2025Fife Young Carers have launched the Young Carers Futures project, a one-year initiative that equips young people with valuable employment skills, providing them with an opportunity to change their future prospects.
The project has helped to transform the lives of almost 150 young adult carers in Fife. It's provided young carers with a range of support, allowing them to participate in social activities, pre-employability workshops, and respite activities.
A key aspect of the project's success was the creation of a dedicated space for young carers, where they could take a break from their responsibilities, connect with others who understood their situation, and contemplate their own futures.
The Fife Young Carers Centre also fostered stronger relationships with local businesses, colleges, and training providers, ensuring that young carers were not overlooked when it came to job opportunities, apprenticeships, or education.
Through CV workshops, the young carers learned about the transferable skills they had gained from their roles at home.
The project also provided carers with the chance to share their experiences with employers including the BBC, Department of Work and Pensions, M&S, and SSE Energy.
The project is funded by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery and supported by the national charity Carers Trust, the project was implemented at the Fife Young Carers Centre.
