    News/Events Category: Funding and Finance
This item will show under the following categories: Climate/Environment

The Community Energy Generation Growth Fund will support community groups across Scotland to set up renewable energy generation projects.

Applications must meet the following objectives:

    • Contribute to Scotland’s target of 2GW of community or locally owned renewable energy by 2030
    • Support communities to develop and be engaged in energy projects and the energy transition
    • Deliver concrete economic benefits to communities, while also supporting Scotland’s net zero ambitions

    Funding can be used for:

    • Developing and installing community owned renewable energy generation, including wind, solar PV and hydro
    • Projects that sell electricity through a connection to the national grid or supplying a local energy demand
    • Most of the available funding is capital funding. This can be used for costs that support bringing assets to site for installation and construction costs
    • There is a small amount of funding available for feasibility studies and options appraisals

This funding call will target projects that can deliver a specific, significant milestone before the end of February 2026.

    Fund award sizes

    Maximum: £250,000

    Annually awarded: £1,500,000

    Notes on award amounts:

Most of the funding is for capital expenditure, so only staff costs relating to professional services provided to the project, for example a project manager, can be funded. See fund website FAQs for %s.

    Who can apply?

Established and incorporated community groups, for example Development Trusts, and Community Energy and Climate Action Groups.

    How to apply

Apply online via the Local Energy Scotland CARES project portal.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 25 June 2025.
