Sophie graduating from the Career Ready programme
We are delighted that our Sophie, our Career Ready student, has graduated from the programme.
Sophie was matched with Fife Voluntary Action (FVA) as a mentee and was given the opportunity to shadow our Capacity Building team where she met with a number of community groups and volunteers. Sophie had the opportunity to learn about good community governance, the importance of good communication skills, and the role the third sector plays in supporting community life.
FVA was able to support Sophie as a Career Ready student and help her build her confidence and self-esteem. The programme included regular mentee meetings and a four week work placement, meeting and engaging with community groups.

Sophie is interested in a career working with animals, possibly becoming a vet in future. The placement gave Sophie the opportunity to work with some charities that support animals, learning a great deal about the huge volume of employment opportunities out there.
On the conclusion of the placement Sophie has arranged a volunteer placement in a Kirkcaldy vet practice. She is currently exploring college courses which are focused on animal handling.
Sophie said "I enjoyed my time working at Fife Voluntary Action. I realised there were many transferable skills that I could use when pursuing my career in working with animals. I was so pleased I signed up to the Career Ready programme."
David McGrath, Sophie's mentor at FVA said "It was a pleasure to work with Sophie. She's a keen and enthusiastic student who was happy to learn new skills and pursue new opportunities. We wish Sophie all the best in her future career."
