    The latest College Statistics report for 2023-24 from Scottish Funding Council show that college student numbers are falling across Scotland. 

    In 2023/24 267,668 students enroled in courses, with 116,602 of those being FTE (full time equivalent) places. 

    There has been a reduction in the availability of funding for Scottish college students for 23/24. No additional funding was made available through the Flexible Workforce Development Fund (FWDF) for 23/24 or 24/25. 

    Key stats include: 

    • College enrolments decreased from 239,920 in 22/23 to 267,668 in 23/24
    • The number of students enroled decreased from 248,907 in 22/23 to 218,145 in 23/24 - that's a 12.3% drop year-on-year 
    • Since COVID there has been a decline in full-time higher education provision
    • Females outnumber males, with the ratio now standing at 49.6% men and 50.4% women 
    • In 23/24 the subject area of healthcare/medicine/health and safety had the highest share of full-time students at 15.4% 
    • Construction/property has seen the biggest increase in share of full-time students at 10.4% in 23/24
    • Family care/personal development/personal care and appearance has seen the largest decline in share - down 2.2% since 14/15
