Children and Young People's Centre for Justice (CYCJ) have announced that they will be hosting a series of webinars in early 2025. Practitioners, policymakers, and anyone passionate about the welfare of children and young people are invited to engage in these important conversations.

The first webinar in the series will be: Understanding and contextualising the social harms facing care experienced young people in Scotland and Wales which takes place on 12 February.

Significant research indicates that young people who become care experienced can face many challenges. Some of which can be long lasting, complex and hidden.

Researchers at Swansea University collaborated with CYCJ to examine the social harms faced by children in Scotland and Wales. Adopting a novel zemiological analysis (meaning the study of social harms), they engaged with individuals to explore the experiences of those who become care experienced and those who are charged with protecting and supporting them.

Drawing directly on the voices of the participants, this webinar offers new insights into care for young people across Wales and Scotland, exposing social harms affecting them, identifying what participants consider effective practice and examines what changes are still needed.

This webinar will be recorded and shared on the CYCJ website. Cameras and mics will be switched off to all attendees, only the speakers and organisers of the event will have their cameras on.

Due to the nature of this webinar some attendees may find that the accounts of those who have been in care are powerful and could be triggering.
