FVA lunchtime learning sessions are aimed at raising the skills and capacities of local service providers interested in improving or enhancing their provision in Fife.

We often hear that it's not possible to offer flexible working, particularly for people in frontline roles such as care and manufacturing. Although many more people now have some flexibility in their jobs than they did before, flexible working is still an untapped opportunity. As organisations we can make jobs a little more flexible - and more attractive - to people and employers.

Employers are struggling to recruit and retain staff, while many people can only enter the labour market if they have some form of flexibility in their role. The solution may seem obvious, however some employers remain unconvinced while others would like to change but don't know where to start.

The Employment Relations (Flexible Working) Act 2023 came into effect in April 2024, yet we know from CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) research last year that a only half of employers knew the legislation changes were coming.

Thi Lunchtime Learning session is presented by Flexibility Works, Scotland's experts on flexible working. They provide training, consultancy, insights, and a community for employers that want to develop more flexible workplaces.

This workshop will help you in your role and we invite you to sit back and listen to some insights and examples of flexible working in the workplace. We will also share data from both the employee and employer perspective.

There will be a chance to discuss all the necessary legal elements of the current flexible working legislation, as well as likely changes coming from the Employment Rights Bill 2024. We'll also hear about how flexible recruitment and wider flex is already driving business success. There will be time for a Q&A too.

By attending this session, you will benefit from:

    • Clarification about what flexible working is, who has it in Scotland right now, and who wants it and why
    • Case study stories and examples of different types of flexible working in both desk-based and frontline roles
    • Learning about the business case for flexible working to help you influence employers
    • Information about forthcoming changes to flexible working legislation which might help you to leverage flex with local employers
