  • Coach Approach - Fife Health and Social Care Partnership

    Created: 10/01/2025
News/Events Category: Health and Social Care

Coach Approach is simply a way to have a different type of conversation with someone. It may be used in one-to-one conversations, such as supervision, or to support team building, group work or in conversations with the people we are supporting and in our communities. It encourages active listening and an open and enabling style of communication that encourages everyone to feel they can participate more.

Why is it being promoted in Health and Social Care?

Importantly for Health and Social Care, the coach approach, as well as being useful in many situations, supports their drive towards developing effective systems of leadership across the Partnership. Systems leadership, as described by NES in their ‘Developing Senior Systems Leaders’ programme is “…how you lead across boundaries (departments, organisations, sectors) and how you lead when you're not in charge and you need to influence others.” Therefore, in such a diverse organisation as the Health and Social Care Partnership, using a coach approach is integral to their success in embedding systems leadership.

    Who is it for?

Currently, priority is for those who are in supervisory/line management roles.

If you can answer 'YES' to the following questions, then you are eligible to apply for a place:

    1. Do you work for Fife Health and Social Care Partnership? (you may be employed by Fife Council, NHS Fife or an independent or voluntary organisation that provides services in Fife)
    2. Are you in a line manager or supervisor role?
    3. Can you commit to the two full days of training for the course?

    What does it cost?

Originally, they used funding from the Scottish Government to commission an external provider to deliver this training. However, they are now able to sustain the delivery of this programme internally through the OD and Culture Team. There is therefore no cost to individual services or organisations.

    How is training delivered?

Currently, each course consists of two full days training. You MUST be able to attend both sessions in the group. There are two blocks of training - you can select the one that fits you best:

Tuesday 18 February and Tuesday 25 February at Fife House

Tuesday 25 March and Wednesday 02 April at Fife House
