Andy's Man Club raise awareness on Fife bin lorries
Created: 17/12/2024Andy's Man Club have teamed up with Fife Council to wrap five bin lorries with their branding to raise awareness of the service they provide.
Andy's Man Club is a charity aimed at helping men talk about their mental health issues in a safe and judgement-free space. They meet every Monday across 14 different support groups in Fife.
This latest initiative started with awareness stalls at staff wellbeing events with Andy's Man Club delivering presentations across various council services. This included hosting drop-in sessions for staff within the waste operations department who have been really supportive of the charity. The department has already made efforts to promote mental health awareness, including placing mental health tags on staff workwear and advertisement signs on bin lorries.
Sandy Anderson, Waste Operations Service Manager, said: "We have 440 frontline employees and we service over 13 million bins in Fife and sweep around 165,000 streets. We have had an ongoing campaign around mental health within my service since January 2021 when we sadly suffered several suicides within the team. It has really affected everyone, myself included."
Three of the lorry wraps were funded by Fife Council, with the remaining two supported by trade unions GMB and Unison.
Kenny Armour, Area Lead for Andy's Man Club in Fife, said "This is a huge announcement, not only for the awareness this will bring around Fife but also around the UK as we launch an awareness video to try to promote the work that has been done within Fife.
"To see these new lorries hit the streets is going to be huge and by doing so, hopefully we reach more men out there struggling with their mental health or social isolation."
