Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) would like to speak to people about their experience of Sodium Valporate.

Sodium Valporate is used to treat epilepsy, bipolar disorder, and occasionally to prevent migraines. Medication that contains Valporate could include Belvo, Convulex, Depakote, Dyzantil, Epilim, Epilim Chrono or Chronosphere, Episenta, Epival, and Syonell.

HIS would like to speak to people who are:

    • Currently taking Valporate or have stopped taking Valporate since August 2023
    • Women and men who are able to become pregnant, or get someone pregnant if they are not on contraception
    • Aged 12-55 years old
    • Carers of people with the above characteristics

This work will inform NHS Boards' plans for the safe use of Valproate. This will ensure person-centred, safe, and effective implementation of new measures.

If you would like to find out more or would like to take part, please e-mail [email protected]

Discussions will take place between November 2024 and June 2025.
