New advice and advocacy service to tackle racism in schools
Created: 18/11/2024Advocacy for Race Equality in Schools Scotland (AdRESS) is a brand-new service that will be advocating for parents and carers who have a child who has experienced racially motivated bullying and racist incidents at school. Hosted and created by Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights (CRER), AdRESS will support parents and carers actively listen to their concerns, advocate and give advice. This is the first of its kind in Scotland.
CRER’s completed its third investigation into racism in schools and how schools dealt with incidents in 2022. The investigation found that there were 1,198 recorded incidents of racism in 2020/21. It also found that in that same year, 83% of schools across Scotland had failed to record racially motivated bullying incidents.
