Jennie Lee Creative Writing Workshop
Created: 21/10/2024Fife Council is delighted to offer a one-off Creative Writing Workshop linked to Jennie Lee.
The workshop is part of the build up to a new play Jennie Lee: Tomorrow is a New Day which will be live at Lochgelly Centre on 01 and 02 November, and at Carnegie Hall on 12 and 13 November 2024.
About Jennie Lee
Jennie Lee was born in Lochgelly in 1904 and grew up in Lochgelly and Cowdenbeath in a mining family. She was elected for North Lanarkshire at age 24 before she could legally vote and was one of the first women into parliament. She married Nye Bevan and supported him in creating the NHS after World War 2 and after his death she became the first ever Minister for the Arts and the founder of The Open University in the 1960’s.
About the workshop
There is no previous knowledge of Jennie Lee or creative writing required, however it is also open to those who have either or both of these.
The workshop will involve simple writing tasks in response to stimulus about Jennie Lee’s life (e.g. photos, audio clips or interesting facts)
The objective is be to explore what the themes of Jennie Lee’s life mean for the participants
There will be opportunity to share with each other and have fun although you will not have to share work if you do not want to.
