  • Life Chances - Recruitment strategy and process from Fife Council

    Created: 26/09/2024
    News/Events Category: Employability

Life Chances is an alternative approach to recruitment. Opportunities have been successfully piloted via this model over the last year and are now available for Fife Council managers to consider offering as an alternative to recruitment.

These opportunities are hugely important as they can really make a difference to a person’s life chances while allowing Fife Council to fill internal job vacancies.

Fife Council Services is encouraged to consider recruiting for entry level job opportunities, particularly ones that are hard to fill, through offering a ‘life chances’ placement to someone on the employability pathway.

    • A ‘life chances’ placement will normally last for 13 weeks (about three months), although some flexibility is possible
    • Participants will be ready for work. However, they will need support as they are likely to have limited work experience due to their personal circumstances
    • Employability support will be provided, and the service will allocate a ‘buddy’ for day-to-day supervision
    • During the placement, participant progress will be assessed against an agreed action plan
    • Participants who successfully complete their life chances placement will be offered a guaranteed job for at least 12 months
