Beautiful Trouble - Get Up, Rise Up (GURU) Direct Action Fund
Created: 12/09/2024The purpose of the Get Up, Rise Up direct action fund is to support activists globally to shift power through strategic non-violent direct actions to create a more socially and ecologically just, healthy, and equitable world for all. Funded by Africans Rising, ActionAidDK, ClimateActionNetwork-International, and Beautiful Trouble.
This autumn, they will accept all applications to the GURU fund, but will prioritise actions advancing two focus areas:
They are particularly looking to support grassroots mobilisations that disrupt binary framing, use compelling visuals, create many points of entry, consider their audience, have smart action logic, and address meaningful targets.
For the upcoming round of GURU Fund applications, they will select five actions. Proposals must meet the GURU Fund requirements. Grants will be awarded up to £1,000. Applications will be reviewed monthly and are due on the 5th of the month of which to be considered.
PLEASE NOTE: this is not a traditional non-profit/charity fund, this is for disruptive and creative actions from grassroots organisations. Request for funding must be for either a direct action or direct action tool.
Fund award sizes
Minimum: £250
Maximum: £1,000
Notes on award amounts: In very exceptional circumstances, they may consider grants above £1,000
Who can apply
Established groups (formal or informal), and in some cases individuals, who have been working on a specific issue or cause and are seeking funding for a direct action or a direct action tool as part of an ongoing campaign. The fund prioritises under-served, under resourced populations and communities.
